Safety Precautions

The ED-18 is designed to provide the utmost in operator safety, but all automotive batteries contain hazardous materials and produce flammable hydrogen gas under certain conditions. For this reason, always observe the following safety procedures when working near batteries or performing the ED-18 test procedure:

  • Use caution and follow all BCI recommended procedures when working around batteries.
  • Wear eye protection and gloves when working around batteries.
  • Do not smoke, create a flame or cause a spark in the vicinity of the battery.
  • Keep hair, hands, clothing, analyzer cords and cables well away from drive belts and other moving engine parts.
