- Perform Steps 1 & 2 of the Battery Test.
- Select "System Test." Press "Enter."
- Perform Steps 4-10 of the Battery Test.
- View Battery Test Results on the Screen. Press "Enter."
- Start engine. As the voltage rises, the ED-18 will display the test results in graphic form.
- Press "Enter." The ED-18 will test the alternator voltage-level.
- Press "Enter." The ED-18 will prompt you to turn off all vehicle loads and rev the engine.
- Turn off loads. Gradually increase the RPM until the ED-18 tells you to "HOLD the rev-level as the black bar on the display crosses the line." (If the ED-18 does not detect the revs, it will prompt you to rev the engine to 1,500 RPM.) When the ED-18 detects the revs, it will prompt you to Press "Enter" to continue.
- Press "Enter." The ED-18 will test the engine next at idle for comparison to other readings and then test the diode ripple. After approximately three seconds, it will prompt you to turn on loads and press "Enter."
- Turn on loads. Press "Enter." The ED-18 will begin testing the charging system with the loads on. After a few seconds, it will prompt you to rev the engine for five seconds.
- Gradually increase the RPM until the ED-18 tells you to "HOLD the rev-level as the black bar in the display crosses the line." (If the ED-18 does not detect the revs, it will prompt you to rev the engine to 1,500 RPM.) When the ED-18 detects the revs, it will prompt you to Press "Enter" to continue.
- Press "Enter." The ED-18 will display the Results screen until you disconnect or press "Clear."
- Press "Print." This will print the results of the battery, starter and charging system tests.
- Present printout results to customer.
