ED18 - Early Detection Analyzer

Tester Setup

Making sure that the ED-18 is properly set up is the key to getting the best long-term results. Here are some important facts relating to the set-up process. (Note: Detailed instructions can be found in the manual supplied with each unit.)

Clock/Date & Time Set
Having the correct date and time set is essential to maintaining the correct time references for record-keeping purposes. The ED-18's "Reports" functions (tests per month, etc.) are calendar-driven, so it's extremely important that you have the correct date and time entered.

Shop Info
The most obvious benefit of entering correct shop information is that your correct business name, address and phone number will be printed on the test-result printout that the customer sees. Furthermore, entering your zip code in the address section allows the ED-18 to draw regional temperature and battery-life information from its internal database. This information is invaluable in communicating the test results to your customer.

Technician Info
This function allows you to track the number of tests that each of your technicians is performing, using their names. This is a great value when managing the test program within your business.

Coupon
This function gives you the option of including one of several discount coupons on the customer's printout, enabling you to provide an additional incentive to for the customer to opt for a new battery in the event of a "marginal" or "replace" result. It also provides an incentive for customers to return to your shop if they opt not to replace the battery right away.

AA Internal Batteries
The ED-18 requires six internal AA batteries but draws power from the vehicle's battery during testing. For this reason, always keep the ED-18 connected to the vehicle's battery when printing out the test result. This will greatly increase the life of the AA batteries. When replacing the internal batteries, use premium quality alkaline batteries. Do not use rechargeable batteries.

IMPORTANT: Insert new batteries within four minutes of removing the discharged batteries. If the ED-18 is without power for more than approximately four minutes, its clock will reset and all saved data will be lost, including test results and setup information.
